Generally this is no database of patients that experience known risk factors after surgery by physician. UCI is a teaching hospital and they may keep some information like this internally, but it would not be a public record and would not be given out.

Since Dr. Ahlering graduated from medical school in 1979, I think it is safe to conclude that he has considerable experience doing prostatectomies. If your concern is more about doing them with the da Vinci I wouldn’t worry too much. It has been around for a while now and I am sure Dr. Ahlering has removed hundreds of prostates this way. From what I am told by the doctors I work with and my ex-husband who is a urologist, it is not only better, but it is easier for them to use the da Vinci than it is to remove a prostate the traditional way. Best wishes, I hope it goes well.

There are several websites about da Vinci system by Dr. Thomas Ahlering.

Recent studies suggest that da Vinci™ Prostatetectomy may improve cancer control and reduce the risk of urinary incontinence and impotence following surgery.
