<description>A &#039;sperm count&#039; is the number of sperm per mL of seminal fluid, i.e. it is a concentration. An enlarged prostate does not decrease the concentration of sperm in a sample of seminal fluid, and nor does it affect the amount of sperm you produce.

As someone mentioned earlier, it may provide an obstruction to the passage of sperm (hence the volume of seminal fluid will be decreased), and under certain conditions, it may cause retrograde ejaculation (RE). RE is not a condition of sperm quality, rather, the flow of seminal fluid is diverted so that it flows into the urinary bladder, rather than out through the urinary meatus (&#039;pee hole&#039;).

To address a comment that someone else made- if you have been told that you have an enlarged prostate, you should be followed up by a trained and qualified medical professional. There is always a reason for prostatomegaly- be it inflammation, infection or other, it should always be managed properly. Provided you receive proper medical attention, the effects on ejaculation, etc are transitory, and should not affect long term sperm quality or volume.

Hope this helps!
